REVIEW OF THE INNOVATION DAY
ON 19 FEBRUARY 2019 IN COLOGNE

More than 35 decision makers and industry experts from the fashion and retail industry met for the Innovation Day in Cologne, organised by SPH AG and hachmeister + partner, and listened to interesting presentations focussing on “Success factors in omnichannel commerce”.

Christoph Schwarzl, partner and shareholder of hachmeister + partner, presented an interesting summary of the NRF 2019 in New York which had attracted 38,000 participants from 99 countries. One of the main points was the fact that omnichannel by now was being accepted as the norm in the digital transformation.

“Data – a new era“ was the title of the h+p benchmark analysis which Frank Ganzasch, hachmeister + partner, presented to the audience. Which factors are important to optimise performance? He mentioned the core points that had to be taken into consideration (market changes, purchase behaviour, price structure, regional challenges etc.) and explained the importance of well-founded and solid data for targeted marketing campaigns, for an improvement of customer satisfaction and for a significant increase in sales.

Wolfgang Schenke, Head of Excellence-Center Fashion of SPH AG, gave an overview of the numerous fields of application of IN:FASHION and illustrated the challenges that fashion companies have to face and the advantages of an integrated solution in the areas of business planning, retail planning, PLM and merchandise management. He explained how IN:FASHION could increase the inventory sell-through rate per channel and area, reduce time to market and improve the turnover ratio by sales area.

Jakob Stallmann, consultant of hachmeister + partner, gave a presentation of the Omnichannel Experience Benchmarking Study which deals with trends and the omnichannel range of leading market participants. The basis of the study is well-founded results pertaining to 50 companies from DACH and the USA respectively. He gave a summary of the results and stressed that there was still a difference between theory and practice. The full study can be downloaded HERE.

“The comprehensive control of sales channels with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Retail Headquarters“ was the title of the final presentation by Michael Vogler, Thomas Schulte and Henrik Kramer of SPH AG. They focussed on the increasing demands on retailers and the challenges for qualified staff in marketing in the stores, in merchandising and logistics departments. Key terms in this context were analytics tools, real-time information, efficient forecasting methods and availability everywhere across all channels. The SPH experts explained the advantages of cloud services and also addressed the important issue of the new rules on data protection.

The evening event of the Innovation Day was an exclusive highlight for the participants. Networking, an excellent dinner, a glass of traditional “Kölsch” beer and an exciting ice hockey match in the VIP lounge of the LANXESS arena rounded off this interesting day.

Positive feedback from all guests showed that the agenda of the Innovation Day is always up to date and in step with the times. The event format offers sufficient time and space for the participants to discuss trending topics in the fashion industry. Christoph Schwarzl and Detlef Beiter rated the event a great success and were both looking forward to the next Innovation Day with another sporting highlight.
